Activision have stated that Call of Duty’s annual release for 2017 will see the franchise return to its roots.

The company behind the first-person shooter phenomenon has gone on record as saying that “traditional combat will take centre stage” once again. In recent years Call of Duty has dabbled in narratives set in the future. In fact, the latest release, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, could be described as full-blown sci-fi. Activision also announced that Sledgehammer Games are developing 2017’s entry.

This will come as welcome news to many gamers who have perhaps become jaded with the recent direction the Call of Duty series has ventured down. We can only hope for a return to the glory days of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Good times.
