FIFA 17‘s story mode, The Journey, will be returning for the series next installment, EA has confirmed.

The Journey was EA’s attempt at creating a story-driven mode for its biggest sports franchise, and ended up being surprisingly good. Players assumed the role of Alex Hunter, a real rags-to-riches type who’s story could easily be continued in a second season.

EA boss Andrew Wilson has stated that Season 2 will see the introduction of new characters and storylines. Whether this means Hunter is being shelved is unclear, but lets hope the developers continue to improve on what was definitely a solid starting point.

FIFA has gradually grown into a colossal title in the gaming world, and now EA have revealed that FIFA 17 was the best selling console title in the world for 2016, period. This means that the game outsold the likes of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Grand Theft Auto 5. No mean feat.
